Semaglutide is a non-stimulant, weight loss medication that is administered subcutaneously once a week. Semaglutide was first developed for patients with Type 2 Diabetes and has since gained popularity after having positive effects on weight loss.
Semaglutide became FDA approved in 2021 to be utilized in patients who may be struggling to lose weight. The Semaglutide program is for patients with a BMI greater than 27 accompanied by weight-related medical problems such as high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, or high cholesterol.

Clients who are eligible for Semaglutide include clients with a BMI of 30 or greater or clients with a BMI of 27 in the presence of at least one weight-related comorbid condition (e.g., hypertension, type 2 diabetes mellitus, or dyslipidemia).
Clients having a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma or clients with Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 cannot receive Semaglutide.
The most common side effect when taking Semaglutide is GI upset.
